Mario Balotelli scored in the Premier League after 770 minutes
Mario Balotelli finally became Super Mario for Liverpool as he scored the winning goal against Tottenham and brought an important three points for his team. He entered the match after 74 minutes, when results was 2:2, and nine minutes later received great ball from Adam Lallana in the six-yard box which was impossible to miss. That caused euphoric celebration of all Liverpool players and fans, but Mario stayed cool and calm, in muted celebration mood. That was not surprise as he celebrated scored goals in Italian league on the same way. He didn't look happy at all, looked like as he was not part of the team and run straight down the tunnel just after the match. But later on his Instagram he posted smiling selfie with comment:
"Great game guys!!! This smile is ONLY for those that always Believe and support me. Thank you. ❤ and Forza Liverpool. But now head down and keep working hard. Tonight is past."
This was his first goal for Liverpool and even the most persistent fans lost faith that he could ever score goal in the red shirt in some league match. The eccentric Italian joined Liverpool from Milan for £16million and was announced as reinforcements in the attack line. He scored only one goal against Ludogorets Razgrad in the Champions League and once against Swanse in Capital One Cup for the red shirt. I think that fans and club had unreal expectation from him in front of the season. He spent three seasons in Inter and same in Manchester City and scored by 20 goals in total during three years. Balotelli also played three season in Milan and scored 26 goals during that period, so if he score 6-7 goals in this season for Liverpool that will be great and fulfilled of his average capabilities. Just for comparison, Tottenham rising star - attacker Harry Kane - scored his 23rd goal on this match, all in this season. In the past Balotelli was more famous by disciplinary problems, difficult relationship with Mourinho and Mancini, and eccentric behavior than by great football skills.
Mario Balotelli was not in the starting eleven in any of Liverpool's 22 fixtures, played only 13 games as substitute on all of them. He had almost 50 attempts to net during this season. In the club have a lot of understanding for his inefficiency, as he was hard working, had injury problems, healthy issues etc. Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe said after the match:
"We knew it would be a tough game but we got the three points to keep closing the gap. Mario always works hard in training. Recently he has been ill and also had a knock on his foot and couldn't get his boot on but he kept going and deserved his goal. He got the winner so I'm sure he's happy. He knew he might have to play a part and he did."
Liverpool fans will remember this match by the great game for their team, great victory and by their hero at Anfield, Mario Balotelli. The Reds have waited a long time for Balotelli to score his first goal in the English top flight. His previous goal in it came in 2012 when he played for Manchester City against Wigan. The goal against the Spurs could be a turning point for Balotelli, but the victory could be most eventful game of the season for Liverpool.
