Roger Federer completed his 1000th career victory

Roger Federer won his first Brisbane International trophy after beat Milos Raonic in three sets in the final. The Canadian made life difficult for Federer but was eventually beaten in three sets. That was the 1000th victory in his career. On the path to the final he won against John Millman, James Duckworth, Grigor Dimitrov and against the third seed Milos Raonic in the final match. The World No.2 was excellent on this tournament and won the trophy to boost his confidence in front of the first Grand Slam this year in Australia. He lost only two sets, one against Milos Raonic in tie-break and one against John Millman on the first match. Here are the results:

Roger Federer - Milos Raonic 2:1 (6:4, 6:7, 6:4)
Roger Federer - Grigor Dimitrov 2:0 (6:2, 6:2)
Roger Federer - James Duckworth 2:0 (6:0, 6:1)
Roger Federer - John Millman 2:1 (4:6, 6:4, 6:3)

Roger Federer - 1000 wins

Federer became only the third player in the Open Era to have 1000 or more wins. Jimmy Connors has the most winning matches (1253) in his career, while Ivan Lendl is second on that list with 1071 wins. Federer was naturally happy and said after the match:

"Clearly it's a special day for me, winning a title plus getting to the magic number of 1000. It feels very different to any other match I've ever won. All those numbers didn't mean anything to me, but for some reason 1000 means a lot because it's such a huge number. Just alone to count to 1000 is going to take a while."

Federer's record of 1000 wins from 1227 matches in career including ATP, Grand Slam and Davis Cup singles matches. 737 from these matches were achieved in straight sets. He played 125 finals and achieved 83 titles including 17 Grand Slams. Federer's first victory was against Guillaume Raoux in 1998 at the first round in Toulouse. Andy Roddick is the player who was beaten 21 times by Federer, while the actual World No.1 Novak Dkokovic is second on that list with 19 defeats.

This tournament and the record will give him confidence in front of Australian Open. He has four titles from this tournament and the last one was in 2010.
