Russell Westbrook earned MVP honors in the 2015 NBA All-Star Game
The 64th annual NBA All-Star Game was played in Madison Square Garden for the first time since 1998. The Western Conference All-Stars defeated the Eastern Conference All-Stars with 163:158 which was fourth time the West to beat the East in the last five years. Traditionally it is more shooting match with effective points and exhibitions, so the defense is not so important. With 321 points this match was recorded in history of NBA as most efficient All-Star match.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook was the best scorer on the match with 41 points which is only one point behind Wilt Chamberlain's record set long time ago, in 1962. Westbrook exceeded Michael Jordan's record from 1988 which was 40 points. Westbrook was named for MVP on this match. He had 27 points in the first half which was the record a half in All-Star history. He missed the last exhibition match due to to knee injuries, so was excited after these match:
"When you get a chance to play in a game like this it is an honor and a blessing. Someone told me about the record and I could have had it but I kept missing lay-ups. It's definitely an honor to be grouped in with those two guys, Chamberlain and Jordan, especially in an All-Star Game."
LeBron James, of the Cleveland Cavaliers, praised Westbrook:
"Westbrook was going forward from the start, he is an unbelievable talent – his motor , his enthusiasm, his demeanor in the way he approaches the game. And he showcased it in a big stage like this. He is one of the most gifted players ever," LeBron said.
LeBron James was best in the Eastern Conference team with 30 points. That was his 11th All-Star match and he was choose for Most Valuable Player four times. After that match LeBron James came on the second position on the best scorer list. Kobe Bryant is first ranking with 280 career All-Star points, while James scored his 263rd career point on the last All-Star match.
Gasol brothers, Pau and Marc, have become the first brothers and first Europeans to start in an All-Star game. They are also the first brothers to play on opposite sides in the NBA All-Star Game.
The player introductions are usually accompanied by a significant amount of fanfare, including lighting effects, dance music and pyrotechnics. Special uniforms are designed for the game each year. Halftime is also longer than a typical NBA game due to musical performances by popular artists. Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Jersey Boys and Queen Latifah had their performances during the All-Star Game. Between the audience were Rihanna, Jay-Z, Beyonce, boxer Floyd Mayweather, Shaquille O'Neal, Jesse Jackson, Magic Johnson, Spike Lee etc. The most loud was applause to Bill Clinton, the former President of the United States of America.
