Lindsey Vonn becomes the most successful female world cup skier of all time

An American Lindsey Caroline Vonn became the most successful women's World Cup skier of all time. She broke a 35-year-old record with the 63rd World Cup win in her career. The event was held in Italian ski center Cortina D'Ampezzo and she finished first with a huge margin (0.85 sec) ahead of Anna Fenninger of Austria. The previous record was held by Austrian alpine ski racer Annemarie Moser-Proell who was the most successful female ski racer during the seventies.

Lindsey Vonn won four World Cup championships, the gold medal in downhill at the Winter Olympics in 2010, has six consecutive World Cup season titles in the downhill discipline (2008–2013), four consecutive titles in Super-G (2009–2012), and three consecutive titles in the combined (2010–2012). She is one of six women in the World who has won World Cup races in all five disciplines of alpine skiing – downhill, Super-G, Giant-slalom, Slalom and Super-combined. Only Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden with 86 World Cup victories has more wins than her. His record looks unattainable in both competitions, male and female. Here is the All-time World Cup winner list:

1. Ingemar Stenmark, Sweden - 86 victories
2. Lindsey Vonn, United States - 63 victories
3. Annemarie Moser-Proell, Austria - 62 victories
4. Vreni Schneider, Switzerland - 55 victories
5. Hermann Maier, Austria - 54 victories

Lindsey Vonn Skiing

Vonn has got the Laureus World Sports Awards Sportswoman of the Year for 2010. She was a correspondent for NBC News on the last Winter Olympics in Sochi.

This is Vonn's first win in super-G this season and her successful comeback after two right knee injuries that were the main reason for missing the last Olympics Games in Sochi. He said about that:

"The last two years have been really hard. I fought so hard to come back for Sochi and then to have blown out my knee right before the Games again was heartbreaking, but I never gave up. I kept believing in myself, and I'm surprised at with how quickly things have kind of come around. I've gotten back on the podium and on the top step pretty quickly."

Her teammate Julia Mancuso in superlatives talks about her return:

"It's really cool to see her skiing exactly how she wants to be skiing. I'm just happy to be a part of a team where she's able to break records and push the limit. It's super-impressive, especially after such a big injury, I think it means even more."

U.S. Alpine director Patrick Riml also said that it is an unbelievable comeback which for sure has influence on her high confidence.

"Moser-Proell is a legend in Austria," said Riml, an Austrian. "She was a legend all over the world. She still is but there's a new legend now."

Lindsey Vonn was surprised by her boyfriend, the famous golfer Tiger Woods, who flew to Cortina D'Ampezzo to celebrate that success with her. Woods was masked and told everyone to keep it a secret. He weaved through the crowd unnoticed until he shared an emotional embrace with Vonn.

Lindsey Vonn said about that surprise:

"I knew it was him immediately. He loves that stupid mask. It was an amazing surprise. I'm so happy that he's here. Everyone important to me is here, my mom and dad and my sister and Tiger - it's pretty incredible. I didn't think it was going to get better than yesterday and today topped it."

Tiger Woods lost a tooth after being hit in the face by a camera during a crush of photographers at the awards' podium. His agent Mark Steinberg said that he was knocked out by an incident.

Lindsey Vonn is a real superstar and that makes Alpine skiing more popular in the U.S. and Europe. She is also a role model for hard working and an achievement of huge dreams.

At the end I will mention that Vonn is one of the sexiest woman in the sport World. Enjoy two more photos:
