Peterborough vs AFC Wimbledon Prediction
Bottom Boys vs High Flyers - Goals on the Cards?
Preview
Ag man, this is a proper mismatch on paper but football's not played on paper, hey! Peterborough are rock bottom of League One with only 10 points from 13 games, while Wimbledon are sitting pretty in 6th with 25 points. That's a bigger gap than my braai tongs after a few beers!
But hold your horses... Peterborough have actually won 5 of their last 10 games, including that cracking 1-0 win over Cardiff in the FA Cup. They've also picked up decent away wins at Burton Albion and Plymouth. The problem is consistency - they follow up good results with stinkers like that 0-3 home loss to Lincoln.
Wimbledon have been flying high most of the season but have hit a slight bump recently, losing their last two games 0-2 to Gateshead (shock!) and 0-1 to Burton. Before that though, they were smashing teams away from home - 75% win rate on their travels this season!
Here's the interesting bit - historically Peterborough boss Wimbledon at home, winning 4 out of 6 meetings. But Wimbledon's away form this season has been proper solid.
Both teams leak goals like a sieve. Peterborough are letting in 1.83 goals per game at home, while Wimbledon only keep clean sheets 10% of the time. When these two meet, both teams usually find the net - it's happened in 4 out of their last 9 meetings.
The goal numbers suggest we're in for goals - Wimbledon averaging 1.5 away, Peterborough 1.5 at home. With both defenses looking about as solid as a paper plate, I'm expecting both teams to score here.
