Right, so we've got Baglan Dragons hosting Pontypridd Town in the FAW Championship on 10 October, and let me tell you, this one's got a clear edge if you look at the numbers properly. No fancy talk, just the facts, and the facts say Pontypridd are the better side.
Over their last 20 away games, Pontypridd Town have picked up 6 wins, 8 draws and 6 losses, scoring 1.6 goals per game and conceding 1.7. Baglan Dragons at home over 20 games? 5 wins, 6 draws, 9 losses, scoring 1.15 per game and conceding 1.85. That's a gap that doesn't lie, and it's not a close one. And if you look at the last 10 games across all venues, Pontypridd have won 6, drawn 2 and lost 2, scoring 2.3 per game. Baglan? 5 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses, scoring 1.1. That's a massive difference in output, and it's the kind of thing that separates a team that's grinding it out from one that's actually performing.
The head-to-head is mostly historical, so I won't lean on it too hard. The one meeting within the last 12 months was Pontypridd winning 2-0 at their ground back in February 2026. In the older games at Baglan's ground, Baglan did win 3-0 in July 2025, but that's 14 months ago and it's historical record, not current form. The dates on those older meetings dilute any trend you might try to draw from them.
Now, the counter-argument, and I'll give Baglan their due. They did win their last game, 2-1 away at Llanelli AFC on 2 October, and they're at home. Their home defence concedes 1.85 per game, while Pontypridd's away defence concedes 1.7 on the road. And Pontypridd did lose 1-3 at home to Aberystwyth Town just 7 days ago, so they're not flawless. But that loss was at home, and their away record tells a very different story. Baglan also lost 3 of their 4 games before that Llanelli win, so that one victory doesn't change the picture much.
Key Points:
- Pontypridd Town's away record (6W 8D 6L, 1.3 points per game) outperforms Baglan Dragons' home record (5W 6D 9L, 1.05 points per game)
- Pontypridd score 2.3 per game in their last 10; Baglan score 1.1
- The only recent head-to-head meeting (February 2026) was a 2-0 Pontypridd win
- Baglan won their last game but lost 3 of their 4 games before that
- Both teams' last 5 games show 4 of 5 finishing over 2.5 goals
So my verdict: I'm going with the Pontypridd Town away win. The numbers don't lie, and this is the kind of game where you trust the evidence over the home crowd. Now pass me a beer and let's watch this one.
