Right then, let's have a proper look at this Bundesliga clash. It's 15th-placed Augsburg hosting 8th-placed Freiburg. On paper, it's a bit of a mid-table scrap with one side looking up and the other glancing nervously over their shoulder. But the numbers tell a much more interesting story, especially if you fancy a flutter.
Augsburg are having a right old struggle, ain't they? Just 14 points from 16 games and only four wins all season. Their last ten games read like a horror show: two wins, two draws, and six losses. The most worrying stat? They've only scored five goals in that entire run. Five! That's one every other game. They got turned over 4-0 by Gladbach last time out and have been shut out in six of those ten matches. Their saving grace is their home defence – they've only conceded 0.33 goals per game at their place. They even managed a brilliant 2-0 win against a strong Bayer Leverkusen side back in December. But let's be honest, that result looks like a massive outlier in a sea of attacking poverty.
Now, over to Freiburg. They're sitting pretty in 8th, nine points better off. Their form is decent: five wins, two draws, three losses in their last ten. They know where the net is, bagging 17 goals in that spell. But here's the kicker – their away form is a proper Jekyll and Hyde act. They score a respectable 1.4 goals per game on their travels, but they concede a whopping 2.6! Their last five away games include a 4-3 thriller at Wolfsburg, a 2-1 loss to bottom-side Heidenheim, and a 6-2 pasting at Bayern. They're entertaining to watch on the road, but for all the wrong reasons if you're a Freiburg fan.
When these two get together, it's usually a goal fest. Look at the head-to-head: seven of the last nine meetings have seen over 2.5 goals. Freiburg have won six of those nine, including a 3-1 victory back in August. The pattern is clear – Freiburg usually have Augsburg's number, and goals follow.
So, what's gonna happen? Augsburg are solid at the back at home but can't hit a barn door. Freiburg score freely but leave the back door wide open when they're away. Something's got to give. I reckon Freiburg's attacking quality will eventually break down Augsburg's resistance. And given Freiburg's generosity on the road, even Augsburg's blunt attack might finally remember how to score, especially if they get a set-piece or a bit of luck.
Key Points:
Augsburg have scored just 5 goals in their last 10 games.
Freiburg concede an average of 2.6 goals per game away from home.
7 of the last 9 head-to-head clashes have seen Over 2.5 Goals.
Augsburg's home defence is tight (0.33 goals conceded per game), but Freiburg's away attack is potent (1.4 goals scored per game).
- The last meeting ended 3-1 to Freiburg.
All the signs point to one thing: goals. The history says it, Freiburg's away stats scream it. Even if Augsburg park the bus, Freiburg's leaky defence might gift them a chance. At odds of 1.91, there's real value in backing Over 2.5 Goals in this one.
