Right then, let's have a proper look at this one down the pub! Marseille come marching into town sitting pretty in 2nd place with 25 points, while Nice are lingering in 9th on 17. The gulf in class shows when you dig into the numbers.
Marseille have been banging them in for fun lately - 2.3 goals per game over their last 10 matches. They've put six past Le Havre, three past Metz, and four past Ajax in Europe. Their attack is firing on all cylinders, taking nearly 15 shots per game compared to Nice's measly 9.3.
But here's the thing about Nice - they can't defend for toffee! Just ONE clean sheet in their last 10 games. They're shipping 1.6 goals per match and have let in two or more in six of those games. Against Freiburg, Celta Vigo, and Fenerbahce in Europe, they conceded every single time.
The interesting bit? Both teams have been scoring in 80% of Nice's recent matches. They're finding the net themselves (1.4 per game) but can't keep it clean at the back. Even when they beat Lille 2-0, that was their only clean sheet in ages.
Head-to-head, it's been pretty even - Nice actually have a decent home record against Marseille with 3 wins in 5 meetings. But current form suggests Marseille's firepower might be too much for that leaky Nice defense.
The stats tell a clear story: Marseille score plenty, Nice concede plenty. Both teams to score looks like the smart money here.
