Right then, let’s have a proper look at this one. Ponte Preta are sitting at the foot of the table in Serie B with a mountain of a task ahead of them, and Criciuma are the perfect storm to test their resolve. The hosts are in absolute freefall: zero wins in their last ten games, a win rate of 0.00%, and they’re conceding an average of 2.50 goals per game. At home, it’s barely any better—they’re averaging just 0.60 goals scored while letting in 2.20. They’ve dropped 8 points from their last 10 matches, and their form line is pointing straight down.
On the other side, Criciuma are doing things properly. They’re second in the table with 30 points, and they’ve gone ten games unbeaten. That’s five wins and five draws, picking up a massive 2.00 points per game. Their defence is rock solid, conceding just 0.50 goals on average, and they’ve kept five clean sheets in that same ten-game run. Away from home, they’re still tough to break down, conceding 0.60 per game while chipping in with 1.00 of their own. They’ve not lost an away game all season.
The head-to-head tells a similar story. In their last ten meetings, Criciuma have taken five points from a possible six in the last few encounters, and they’ve won two of the last ten while drawing six. The recent meetings have been tight, with scores like 1-2 and 1-1 popping up regularly. Ponte Preta’s attack is toothless, averaging 0.50 goals a game, while Criciuma’s defence is one of the best in the division.
Looking at the numbers, the expected goals line sits at 0.60 for the hosts and 1.60 for the visitors. That paints a picture of a tight, low-scoring affair where Criciuma are likely to nick it. The bookies have them at 1.71, which implies around a 58% chance of winning. Given Criciuma’s unbeaten run, defensive solidity, and Ponte Preta’s complete lack of firepower, that price feels like a fair crack of the whip. Ponte Preta are struggling to even hit the back of the net, let alone stop a side that’s been this consistent.
Sometimes the smart money sits on the sidelines, but here the form gap is just too wide to ignore. Criciuma are grinding out results, keeping clean sheets, and sitting comfortably in the promotion mix. Ponte Preta are digging their own grave. I’m backing the visitors to secure a hard-fought victory away from home.
Key Points:
- Ponte Preta are winless in 10 games, averaging 0.50 goals scored and 2.50 conceded.
- Criciuma are 2nd in Serie B, unbeaten in 10 (5W, 5D), with a 0.50 goals conceded average.
- Head-to-head record is tight, but Criciuma have the form and defensive structure to edge it.
- Expected goals point to a low-scoring match (Home 0.60, Away 1.60).
- Bookmaker odds of 1.71 for an away win offer solid value against a bottom-side in crisis.
My tip: Criciuma to win.
