Right then, let's have a proper look at this one! Atalanta vs AC Milan, and what a cracking little matchup this is shaping up to be.
First things first, you gotta look at the league table. Milan are sitting pretty in 3rd with 17 points, proper top-half stuff. But here's the thing about Atalanta - they're unbeaten! That's right, 8 games played and not a single loss, though they do love a draw don't they? Six draws already this season, making them the draw specialists of Serie A.
Now, let's talk recent form because that's where the money's made. Atalanta have been drawing for fun lately - four draws in their last five matches! 1-1 with Cremonese, 0-0 with Slavia Praha, 0-0 with Lazio, 1-1 with Como. They're solid at home too, only letting in 0.6 goals per game on their own patch.
Milan, on the other hand, are flying. Seven wins in their last 10 games, that's proper form. They had a bit of a slip-up drawing 2-2 with struggling Pisa, but apart from that they've been banging them in. Their away form is absolutely minted - 66.67% win rate on the road and here's the killer stat: ZERO goals conceded in their last three away games. That's some serious defensive organisation.
Head-to-head, it's pretty even. Atalanta have the edge historically (4 wins to 3), and they've done well at home against Milan with 2 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. Recent meetings have been tight affairs, mostly 1-0s and 2-1s.
So what's the play here? Milan are clearly the better team right now, but Atalanta are stubborn at home and don't lose. The draw at 3.30 might tempt some given Atalanta's draw-happy season, but I'm looking elsewhere.
Both teams to score? Atalanta have seen both teams score in 60% of their recent games, but Milan's away defensive record is something else. Clean sheets in 60% of their games overall, and that perfect away record defensively speaks volumes.
I'm leaning towards a tight, low-scoring affair. Milan's defence on the road is just too good to ignore, and Atalanta, while solid at home, aren't exactly free-scoring.
