Right, so we've got Penafiel at home against AVS in the Segunda Liga, and if you've been following Penafiel's last five games, the form is hard to ignore. Five wins, 13 goals scored, just 3 conceded. That's not a coincidence — that's a team on a roll, and the home record backs it up too.
Across 20 home games, Penafiel have won 9, drawn 4 and lost 7, scoring 1.25 per game and conceding 0.95. Eight clean sheets in those 20 tells you the back line is organised. In the last 10 games across all venues, they've picked up 1.7 points per game and scored 1.6 a game. That's a side that's clicking, mate.
Now AVS. Not a disaster by any stretch, but not a team you'd be lining up to face on the road. Their last five is 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss — a 1–2 slip at Lusitânia Lourosa and a 0–0 at home to Farense. On the road over 20 away games, they've won just 4, drawn 9 and lost 7, and they're conceding 1.7 per game. That's a lot of goals leaking in. Nine draws in 20 away games tells you they're a side that hangs around and tries to nick a point rather than go and win it. And that's a problem when you're walking into a team that's won every single game they've played.
The head-to-head is dated — the last two meetings were back in 2023 and 2024, and AVS won both, 1–0 at their ground and 1–0 at Penafiel's. But that's history, not form. Penafiel haven't scored in either of those, which is a different team to the one that's just put 13 past their opponents in five games. I'd put that on the shelf and look at what's happening now.
The counter-argument? AVS have kept 5 clean sheets in their last 10 and only conceded 0.7 per game in that stretch. They're not a team that falls apart, and that 0–0 at Farense shows they can park the bus. But parking the bus against a side that's scored 13 in five games and won every one of them? That's a tough ask.
The market has Penafiel at 2.0 for a win, which prices them at 50%. Given the form gap — five straight wins for Penafiel versus a mixed bag for AVS, and the home/away records telling a clear story — I'd rate Penafiel's chance closer to 58%. That's a decent chunk of value on the price, and the football backs it up.
Key Points:
- Penafiel have won their last 5 matches, scoring 13 and conceding just 3
- Penafiel's home record: 9W 4D 7L in 20 games, 8 clean sheets
- AVS's away record: 4W 9D 7L in 20 games, conceding 1.7 per game
- Head-to-head is historical (2023–2024), with AVS winning both meetings
- AVS have kept 5 clean sheets in their last 10 but only won 4 away in 20
So there you have it — Penafiel home win. The form, the home numbers, the away weakness of AVS, it all points the same way. Grab your pint and enjoy the show.
