Preview
Pescara and Guidonia Montecelio 1937 meet at Pescara's ground on 12 October in Serie C - Girone B, and the numbers tell a story of two teams that keep their scores down. I love a fixture like this — it's where the quiet, grinding little games hide, and where the market can be a touch too generous on the goals.
The strongest case for a tight afternoon comes from the last five matches of both sides. Pescara have kept it to two or fewer goals in three of their last five games, scoring just one goal per game and conceding one per game across that stretch. Guidonia Montecelio 1937 have been even more disciplined, with four of their last five games finishing under 2.5 goals, and they too average one goal scored and one conceded per game. When you stack those two five-game stretches side by side, seven of the ten most recent matches for these two clubs ended with two or fewer goals. That is a pattern, and it's a pattern I like.
Pescara's home record over 20 games shows 11 of 20 finishing under 2.5, and Guidonia Montecelio 1937's away record over 20 games shows 10 of 20 under 2.5. The head-to-head, admittedly dated to 2022 and 2023, produced two draws — a 0–0 at Guidonia's ground and a 2–2 at Pescara's — but I'll be upfront: those meetings are historical and don't carry much weight for current form. What matters is the last few weeks, and the last few weeks say low scores.
The counter-argument is fair. Pescara's home record does show 9 of 20 games going over 2.5, and Guidonia Montecelio 1937's away record has 10 of 20 over 2.5. Pescara scored 1.2 goals per game at home over those 20 fixtures, and Guidonia scored 1.15 per game away. In their last 10 games, Guidonia have scored 1.5 goals per game, which is the highest scoring rate in this preview. If both teams find their best form on the day, the combined scoring could push past the line. And Pescara's last home game was a 1–2 loss to Spezia, which showed they can be caught on the counter.
But the most recent evidence — the last five games for each side — is the most telling, and it points firmly to a low-scoring afternoon. Both teams are in a rhythm of scoring once and conceding once, and the market's slight lean towards over 2.5 (51.28% implied) doesn't reflect what the last few weeks of football have shown. The little puppies of Serie C are keeping their scores down, and I'm rooting for the quiet result that the market is slightly underpricing.
Key Points:
- Seven of the last 10 games for both teams finished under 2.5 goals
- Pescara's last 5: 3 under 2.5; Guidonia's last 5: 4 under 2.5
- Both teams average 1 goal scored and 1 conceded per game in their last 5
- The head-to-head is historical (2022–2023) and produced two draws
- Guidonia's away record over 20 games: 10 under 2.5, 10 over 2.5
I'm backing under 2.5 goals at 2.03. The little puppies are keeping their scores down, and I'm rooting for the quiet, low-scoring result that the market is slightly underpricing. 🐾
