Preview
Right then, let's have a butcher's at this Liga I clash. On paper, it's a bit of a funny one. FC Botosani sit pretty in 6th, while FCSB are down in 11th. But the form book tells a very different story, and that's where the value might be hiding.
FCSB might be lower in the table, but they've been picking up points lately. In their last ten, they've won three, drawn three, and lost four. That's not world-beating, but it's a sight better than Botosani's one win, four draws, and five losses in the same stretch. Look at the recent results: FCSB just ground out a 1-0 win over Csikszereda, and before that they held a strong Fenerbahçe side to a 1-1 draw in Europe. They also bagged a nice 2-1 home win over Rapid back in December. At home, they've won half of their last four.
Now, let's talk about Botosani. Blimey, they've forgotten where the net is. In their last four competitive matches, it's been 0-0, 2-0 loss, 1-0 loss, and 1-0 loss. That's not a single goal scored. Their only win in the last ten games was a 5-1 friendly romp against a very weak side. When the competitive stuff starts, they just can't seem to find a way through. On the road, they've only won one of their last six.
The head-to-head makes for even better reading if you're an FCSB fan. They've won all four meetings at home against Botosani. That's a proper mental edge before a ball is even kicked.
When we crunch the numbers, FCSB averages more possession (58% to 54%), better pass accuracy (80% to 72%), and more shots on target per game. Botosani does commit more fouls, which could lead to chances for the home side. FCSB scores 1.25 goals per game at home, while Botosani only manages 0.83 on their travels. More importantly, Botosani's attack is on a clear declining trend.
Key Points:
Botosani have failed to score in their last four competitive matches.
FCSB have a 100% home win record against Botosani in their four previous meetings.
Botosani's away form shows just one win in their last six trips.
FCSB have a 50% win rate in their last four home games.
- Both sides keep a clean sheet in 40% of their matches.
So, what's the bet? The home win at 1.83 is tempting given the history and form, but Botosani have shown they can dig in for a draw against good sides like Arges Pitesti and Rapid. The smarter play, in my book, is looking at the goals market. With Botosani's goal drought being the standout stat of this preview, I fancy Both Teams to Score - NO at 1.93. The odds imply it's a coin flip, but I reckon the chance of Botosani failing to score again is much higher. I'm putting my money on FCSB to maybe nick a 1-0 or 2-0 win, or even a scrappy 0-0 draw, but not both teams finding the net.
