Four victories in five matches — that is the truth of Penybont's recent journey. Since 11 September, the home side have scored 11 goals and conceded just 5, a rhythm that speaks of a team finding its balance. Their last stumble, a 0–1 defeat at GAP Connah S Quay FC on 3 October, was a single dark moment in an otherwise bright stretch. Before that, they had won four in a row, including a 5–1 away demolition of Ammanford AFC and a 3–2 home victory over Briton Ferry.
Yet the head-to-head tells a different story, and one must listen to it. In the last 12 months, Barry Town have won two of three meetings — a 2–0 at Penybont's ground on 3 April and a 1–0 at their own ground on 3 March. At this very venue, Penybont have managed only a 1–1 draw and a 0–2 loss in those two recent encounters. The older meetings, stretching back to 2024, are historical record and do not carry the weight of current form.
Barry Town's away record over 20 games is a remarkable one: 11 wins, 2 draws, 7 losses, with 1.7 goals scored per game. That is a side that travels well. But their last five matches paint a more mixed picture — 2 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses, and 12 goals conceded. The 4–1 defeat to GAP Connah S Quay FC on 26 September and the 5–2 loss at Colwyn Bay on 18 September show a defence that is leaking. Their latest win, a 1–0 at Caernarfon Town on 3 October, came with a red card in the 82nd minute, and one must wonder how much that altered the contest.
Penybont at home, over 20 games, have conceded 0.85 per game and kept 7 clean sheets. Their recent scoring output — 2.2 goals per game across the last five — suggests a team that will find the net. Barry Town, by contrast, have conceded 2.4 per game in their last five, a vulnerability that a confident home side will seek to exploit.
The market prices Penybont's win at 1.95, implying a 51.28% chance. My reading of the form, the home defensive record, and the recent scoring output places the home side's likelihood closer to 56%. The head-to-head and Barry Town's strong away record keep this from being a certainty, but the momentum is with Penybont. The wise path, as I have always said, is to trust the form that is here now, not the ghosts of past meetings. A team that has won four of five, scoring at a rate of 2.2 per game, will not be easily stopped at home.
Key Points:
- Penybont: 4W 1L in last 5, scoring 2.2 per game, conceding 1 per game
- Barry Town: 2W 1D 2L in last 5, conceding 2.4 per game
- H2H last 12 months: Barry Town won 2, 1 draw; Penybont 0W 1D 1L at home
- Penybont home: 0.85 conceded per game over 20 games, 7 clean sheets
- Barry Town away: 11W in 20 games, but recent form is mixed
Penybont home win is my pick.
