Five losses in a row, and two goals in five games — that is the tale Gateshead carry into this fixture. The visitors have not known victory in their last five matches, conceding 14 goals along the way, and their away record over 20 games tells a story of 11 defeats. A side that has scored 0.5 per game in its latest ten outings is not one to fear at a home ground where FC Halifax Town have averaged 1.95 goals per game across 20 fixtures.
The home side arrive with a 2–0 win at Solihull Moors on 3 October, their most recent game, and a record of 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss in five. Their home form over 20 games — 8 wins, 5 draws, 7 losses — is steady, and in their latest ten matches across all grounds they have won 5, drawn 2 and lost 3, conceding just 7 goals. The contrast with Gateshead's 0 wins, 1 draw and 9 losses in that same period is, well, it speaks for itself. You do not need a crystal ball to see which way the wind blows here.
But wisdom demands we look at the other side of the ledger. The most recent meeting between these two sides, on 17 February at FC Halifax Town's ground, ended 1–2 to Gateshead. That was seven months ago, and the form since has shifted dramatically, but it reminds us that this fixture has produced surprises. Halifax's own last two home games were draws — 1–1 with Boston United on 29 September and 1–1 with Sutton United on 19 September — and they were reduced to ten men in a 2–1 loss at Worthing on 26 September. They are not without their wobbles, and a team that draws two home games in a row can find itself wondering what went wrong.
The head-to-head beyond that recent meeting is largely historical: four older meetings span back to 2023, with FC Halifax Town winning three and one draw. Those games dilute current form and should be treated as background rather than trend. The dates reach back two years, and that is a long time in football.
Key Points:
- Gateshead have lost their last 5 matches, scoring 2 and conceding 14
- FC Halifax Town's home record: 8W 5D 7L over 20 games, scoring 1.95 per game
- Gateshead's away record: 5W 4D 11L over 20 games, scoring 1.15 per game
- The recent head-to-head (17 February) was a 1–2 Gateshead win at Halifax's ground
- Gateshead's latest 10: 0W 1D 9L, conceding 2.5 per game
The form gap is too wide to ignore. Gateshead's collapse — five straight defeats, scoring 2 and conceding 14 in that span — meets a home side that is steady and scoring. The market prices FC Halifax Town's win at 1.44, implying roughly 69% likelihood, but the evidence on the pitch points to a higher probability. I rate the home win at around 73%, which sits above the market's view. A team that has not won in five games and has scored two goals in that time does not travel to a home side averaging nearly two goals per game and expect to come back with points. That is not a try, it is a certainty. My pick: FC Halifax Town home win.
