Kitakyushu vs Tegevajaro Miyazaki Prediction
Miyazaki March On: J2 Leaders to Sink Struggling Kitakyushu
Preview
Blimey, talk about a tale of two cities! We’ve got the J2 League’s top dogs Tegevajaro Miyazaki rolling into town to face a Kitakyushu side that’s had a stinker of a start to the season.
Kitakyushu are propping up the table with four straight defeats and zero points to their name. They’ve been leaking goals like a rusty bucket – 2-1 against Biwako Shiga, a proper pasting 4-1 at Roasso Kumamoto, 2-0 down at Oita Trinita, and 3-1 humbled by Gainare Tottori at home. That’s nine goals conceded in four games, and their defence has gone AWOL. Even looking back to their J3 form last November, they were losing 3-2 to Gainare and 2-1 to Fukushima United. It’s been a rough ride.
Meanwhile, Tegevajaro Miyazaki are living the dream. Four wins from four, sitting pretty at the summit with 12 points. They’ve put two past FC Ryukyu, two past Sagan Tosu, three past Gainare Tottori, and nicked a thriller 3-2 at Kagoshima United. That’s 10 goals in four games, and they’re finding the net home and away with frightening consistency – 2.2 goals per game on their travels.
Now, I’ll give Kitakyushu a bit of credit – they’ve scored in three of those four J2 defeats (1-2, 1-4, 1-3), so they’re not completely shot in front of goal. And the head-to-head does show they’ve had the better of Miyazaki historically, including a 3-1 win when these two last met in July. But that was then, and this is now. Form is temporary but class is permanent, as they say – and right now, Miyazaki have both.
The goal expectancy models have this down as a 2-1 or 3-1 type affair, with Miyazaki expected to bag over two goals against a defence conceding more than two per game.
At 2.05 for the away win, the bookies know Miyazaki are favourites, but given they’ve won 80% of their last 10 and Kitakyushu have lost 80% of theirs, there’s still a bit of value in that price. I’m backing the leaders to make it five on the bounce.
Key Points:
• Kitakyushu are bottom of J2 with four straight losses, conceding 9 goals in the process
• Tegevajaro Miyazaki are top with four straight wins, scoring 10 goals and looking rampant
• Kitakyushu have a decent historical H2H record (3 wins in last 8) but current form is vastly different
• Miyazaki have won 80% of their last 10 games; Kitakyushu have lost 80% of theirs
• Goal expectancy suggests a 2.10 to 1.02 advantage for the visitors
Summary: The gulf in class is massive here. Miyazaki are flying high while Kitakyushu are stuck in the mud. Back the away win at 2.05 – it’s short but it’s sweet.
