SpainSegunda División
Right, so we've got Albacete hosting Sabadell on 31 October in the Segunda División, and if I'm being honest, the form books are telling a pretty clear story here.
Albacete have been having a rough old time. In their last five, they've won just once — that 2–0 over Eldense six days ago at their own ground — and lost the other four. The 0–5 thrashing by Valladolid and the 1–3 defeat to Eibar at home really sting, and they've conceded 12 goals in those five games. That's 2.4 a game, and it's not looking pretty. Their xG numbers back it up: they're creating 0.59 per game but facing 1.84 against. In plain English, they're not scoring and they're leaking like a sieve.
Sabadell, on the other hand, have been far more steady. Their last five: a 1–1 draw with Tenerife at home, a 0–1 loss to Burgos away, a 2–1 win at AD Ceuta FC, a 0–0 with FC Andorra, and a 1–1 at Celta de Vigo II. That's one win, three draws, one loss. They've conceded just four goals in five games, and their xG numbers are nicely balanced — 1.21 for, 1.16 against. They're not flying, but they're not falling apart either.
Zoom out to the last ten and the gap widens. Sabadell: 4 wins, 4 draws, 2 losses, 1.6 points per game. Albacete: 1 win, 1 draw, 8 losses, 0.4 points per game. That's a massive difference. Sabadell are scoring 1.1 a game and conceding 0.9; Albacete are scoring 0.7 and conceding 2.0.
Now, Albacete do have a home record worth noting — 8 wins, 4 draws, 8 losses in their last 20 home games, with 1.4 goals scored per game. And that recent 2–0 win over Eldense showed they can put a team to bed at home. But Sabadell's away record over 20 games is 5 wins, 9 draws, 6 losses, and they've kept 8 clean sheets in those 20. That defensive solidity on the road is something Albacete's defence simply doesn't have right now.
The head-to-head is all historical — the last meeting was back in April 2022, and before that it's 2020 and 2021. Four games, one win each, two draws. So there's no recent pattern to lean on. The older meetings at Albacete's ground saw a 1–1 and a 3–0, but those are years old and don't really tell us much about what's happening now.
The counter-argument? Well, Albacete just won at home, and they've got that 8-win home record. Football is weird — a team that's lost four in a row can bounce back against a side that's drawing a lot. Sabadell's nine draws in 20 away games mean they're not exactly a team that's going to steamroll you. And the market has this as a fairly open game, with Sabadell at 2.85 (35.09% implied) and Albacete at 2.75 (36.36%).
But when I look at the numbers — the form gap, the defensive records, the xG — I think Sabadell are the more likely to come away with the points. I'd put their chance at around 41%, which sits comfortably above the 35.09% the market is pricing in.
Key Points:
My pick: the away win for Sabadell at 2.85.
