Right then, let's have a proper gander at this Segunda Liga clash between Chaves and the league leaders Sporting CP B. The table tells quite a story here - Sporting CP B are sitting pretty at the top with 22 points from 10 games, while Chaves are languishing in mid-table with 16 points from 11 matches.
Chaves have been a proper mixed bag recently. They nicked a 1-0 win away at Leixoes in their last game, which was decent enough, but before that they'd lost three on the bounce. The worrying bit for Chaves fans is their home form - only one win in their last four matches at their own patch. They're averaging a measly 0.5 goals per game at home, which isn't going to scare anyone. They've kept clean sheets in half their games, but when you're not scoring at the other end, that only gets you so far.
Sporting CP B, on the other hand, have been flying high. They drew 1-1 away at Penafiel last time out, but before that they'd put three wins together including a smashing 4-0 away victory at Leixoes. That's particularly telling when you consider Chaves could only manage a 1-0 win against the same opposition. The visitors are averaging 1.8 goals per game overall and 1.4 on their travels, which shows they know where the net is.
The bookies have this as a tight contest, which makes sense given it's Portuguese football and anything can happen. But when you look at the form, league position, and goal-scoring records, Sporting CP B look like they've got the edge here. Chaves are struggling to find the net at home, while the visitors are banging them in for fun.
Key Points:
- Sporting CP B top the table with 22 points, 6 clear of Chaves
- Chaves have won just 1 of their last 4 home games
- Sporting CP B average 1.8 goals per game compared to Chaves' 1.0
- Sporting CP B won 4-0 away at Leixoes, while Chaves only beat them 1-0
- Both teams have kept 5 clean sheets in their last 10 games
Given the form and league positions, I'm backing the league leaders to take all three points here. Chaves just don't look like they've got enough firepower at home to trouble a side that's scoring goals for fun and sitting pretty at the top of the table.
