Rapid vs Corvinul Hunedoara Prediction

Rapid are flying, and this is the kind of fixture where you crack open a cold one and feel the confidence kicking in. Five wins in a row, 12 goals scored and just 5 conceded across their last five matches. That's not a coincidence, that's a team with genuine rhythm. They beat Universitatea Cluj 4-3 away on 12 October, then held Genoa to a 2-0 at home, and before that they were winning 3-1 and 2-1 on their own ground. The run is real, and it's backed up by 2.3 points per game over their last 10.

Now, Corvinul Hunedoara have won their last three, and I'll give them that credit. They beat FC Voluntari 3-2 at home on 9 October and got the 3-2 result away at Oţelul. But look at the two games before that: 0-1 at home to Universitatea Craiova and 0-2 away at Petrolul Ploiesti. That's a team that can still go blank, and it's not just one bad afternoon. Over their last 20 away games, they've failed to score in 9 of them. That's a habit, not a fluke, and it's the kind of thing that haunts you when you're on the road.

The head-to-head is completely blank — no meetings on record — so we're leaning on current form and venue records. Rapid's home record over 20 games is 9 wins, 6 draws, 5 losses, with 1.3 goals scored per game and 1 conceded. Corvinul Hunedoara's away record is 10 wins, 3 draws, 7 losses, scoring 1.15 per game but conceding 0.9. On a raw win count the away side actually edges it, but the form gap is what matters here. Rapid are on a 5-game winning run, while Corvinul Hunedoara's last five includes two defeats. The latest 10 comparison tells the same story: 7W 2D 1L for Rapid at 2.3 points per game, against 6W 2D 2L for Corvinul Hunedoara at 2 points per game.

The counter-argument is that Corvinul Hunedoara have turned the corner. Three wins in a row, including an away result, and their xG in that Oţelul game was 2.73. They're scoring. But they've also conceded 7 in their last 5, and their away record still carries 7 losses in 20 games. Rapid, by contrast, have only conceded 5 in their last 5 and have kept 2 clean sheets. The defensive discipline at home is the edge that keeps coming back.

Key Points:

• Rapid are on a 5-game winning run, scoring 12 and conceding 5

• Corvinul Hunedoara have won their last 3 but lost 2 of the 5 before that

• No head-to-head meetings on record; current form and venue records tell the story

• Corvinul Hunedoara have failed to score in 9 of their last 20 away games

• Rapid's home record: 9W 6D 5L in 20 games; Corvinul Hunedoara away: 10W 3D 7L

My pick: Rapid home win.
