Oh, what a delightful treat we have here, my fellow underdog lovers! While the world looks at the table and sees 11th-placed Flamengo hosting 19th-placed Cruzeiro, us sharp-eyed value hunters see something entirely different - a resilient little puppy priced at a whopping 6.50 that simply refuses to roll over!
Let's start with the big dogs. Flamengo certainly have the attacking pedigree, averaging 2.50 goals per game across their last ten outings and boasting some eye-catching results like that 8-0 thrashing of Madureira and 7-1 demolition of Sampaio Corrêa. But here's the thing - when we look specifically at their Serie A campaign, they've been surprisingly patchy. Just one win from three games, with draws against Mirassol (0-0) and Internacional (1-1), plus that recent 0-0 stalemate against Fluminense. At home they're strong (60% win rate), but not the unstoppable force the 1.50 odds might suggest.
Now, let's talk about our beloved underdogs. Cruzeiro may sit second-bottom with only two points from four league games, but their overall form tells a completely different story. In their last ten matches across all competitions, they've lost just once (W5-D4-L1), picking up 1.90 points per game - barely behind Flamengo's 2.10! They've kept five clean sheets in this run and have been magnificent defensively, conceding just 0.70 goals per game. Most impressively, they're unbeaten in their last four away trips (2 wins, 2 draws), including a gutsy 2-2 draw at Mirassol and a crucial 1-0 victory over rivals Atletico-MG last time out. They also held third-placed Corinthians to a 1-1 draw, proving they can mix it with the big boys.
The head-to-head record looks daunting for Cruzeiro with Flamengo winning six of the last nine, but the most recent meeting ended in a 0-0 draw - a reminder that these clashes can be tighter than history suggests. With Cruzeiro's defensive solidity and Flamengo's occasional struggles to break down organized opposition, this has all the ingredients for a potential upset.
Key Points:
- Cruzeiro have lost just once in their last ten matches across all competitions (W5-D4-L1)
- Flamengo have drawn two of their last three Serie A fixtures, including a 0-0 stalemate against Mirassol
- Cruzeiro are unbeaten in their last four away games (2 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses)
- Cruzeiro kept five clean sheets in their last ten games and just shut out Atletico-MG
- The last meeting between these sides ended in a 0-0 draw, showing Cruzeiro can frustrate Flamengo
- At 6.50 odds, the implied probability (15.4%) significantly undervalues Cruzeiro's actual chance based on current form
Summary: I'm backing the little puppy Cruzeiro to pull off a massive surprise at 6.50. The market is reacting to league positions rather than actual form, and Cruzeiro's unbeaten away run combined with their defensive resilience gives us tremendous value. This is exactly the type of long-term profitable spot us underdog hunters live for!
