Hello my lovely underdog lovers! Umery here, and I've got my tail wagging for this Austrian 2. Liga clash between Floridsdorfer AC and our dear little puppies Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz. While the table suggests a mismatch with FAC sitting pretty in 5th place on 32 points and Bregenz anchored at the bottom with just 11 points, my nose is twitching at the scent of value!
Let's talk about the hosts first. Floridsdorfer AC may be the favourites at 1.74, but oh my, have they forgotten where the goal is at home! In their last five home matches, they've scored exactly zero goals – that's right, nil, nada, nothing! They lost their most recent home league outing 0-1 to Sturm Graz II (who are down in 14th place), and their home form reads a woeful 0% wins, 40% draws, and 60% defeats. Even in friendlies against Donau and Fach-Donaufeld, they managed only 0-0 stalemates. For a team with a +13 goal difference overall, their recent attacking output of just 3 goals in 10 games (0.30 per game) is positively puppy-like – and not in the good way!
Now, let's look at our brave underdogs. Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz might be propping up the table with only 2 wins all season, but these scrappers have heart! Did you see what they did on December 12th? They absolutely walloped league leaders SKN ST. Polten 2-1 at home! That's the same St. Polten sitting top of the pile with 35 points. If they can beat the best, they can certainly trouble a Floridsdorfer side that can't buy a goal at home.
What's more, while Bregenz has lost their last three away games, they've been far from pushovers on the road, scoring 1.67 goals per game away from home – that's better than FAC's home scoring! Sure, they've conceded 3.00 per game away (including a 4-3 thriller at FC Liefering where they showed real fight), but against a home side that's scored zero in five, that defensive record might not be as costly as the odds suggest.
The head-to-head history puts a big smile on my face too. Floridsdorfer AC has NEVER beaten Bregenz at home in competitive meetings – their record stands at 0 wins, 1 draw, and 1 defeat. The last time these two met on August 15th, it finished 1-1, and Bregenz will fancy their chances of repeating that or better against a side in such a goal drought.
Key Points:
- Floridsdorfer AC have scored 0 goals in their last 5 home games (0% win rate)
- Bregenz defeated league leaders SKN ST. Polten 2-1 in their last home win
- Bregenz have scored 1.67 goals per game in their last 3 away matches
- FAC have only managed 3 goals in their last 10 games overall (0.30 per game)
- Head-to-head at FAC's ground: Bregenz unbeaten (1 win, 1 draw from 2 visits)
- Bregenz are available at 4.68, implying just a 21.4% chance – I reckon it's closer to 26%!
Summary:
This is exactly the kind of spot where the market overreacts to the league table. Yes, Bregenz are bottom, but FAC are shooting blanks at home, and history shows the hosts struggle against these particular visitors. At 4.68, the little puppies from Bregenz represent cracking value for us underdog hunters. I'm backing the away win – come on you underdogs!
