Right, folks, it's The Big O again, and I'm staring at this one with a bit of a frown. IF Elfsborg host Halmstad in Allsvenskan on 12 October, and I'm looking for goals, goals, goals. But the numbers aren't quite singing to me the way I'd like.
Let's start with the home side. IF Elfsborg have won 11 of their last 20 home games, scoring 1.55 per game and keeping 7 clean sheets. That's a solid record. But here's the rub: their last three home fixtures have been 0–1 to BK Häcken, 1–0 against Kalmar FF, and 2–0 to Degerfors IF. Three straight low-scoring affairs. In their last five matches across all grounds, only two of the five went over 2.5 goals. The man in the middle is a bit quiet lately, and that's not my favourite kind of quiet.
Now Halmstad. They've won their last two — 3–2 at home to Östers IF and 2–1 to AIK Stockholm — and that's the kind of scoring I like to see. Five goals in two games. But their away record over the last 20 games tells a different story: 3 wins, 6 draws, 11 losses, and they've failed to score in 7 of those 20. They're conceding 1.85 per game on the road, which means the defence is leaking, but they're only managing 1.0 a game on the attack away from home. So they're getting goals in, but not necessarily scoring enough to push the total over the line.
The head-to-head is mostly historical at this point. The only meeting within the last 12 months was a 1–1 draw at Halmstad's ground back in May. Before that, the older games show IF Elfsborg winning 9 of 14 across both venues, but those numbers stretch back eight years and I'd be foolish to treat them as current form. What I will say is that in those 14 meetings, only 6 went over 2.5 goals, but most of those are well over a year old and I wouldn't base a bet on them.
So where does that leave me? I'm looking at the Over 2.5 price at 1.6, which the market is pricing at 62.5 per cent. My own read, weighing IF Elfsborg's three straight under-2.5 home games against Halmstad's recent high-scoring form, puts the true probability closer to 55 per cent. That's below the 62.5 the bookies are charging, and frankly, it's below the level I'd need to feel comfortable staking on. The home side's recent home output is too dry, and Halmstad's away scoring is too inconsistent, for me to see value at this price.
I'll be honest — I'd love to back the Over on this one. Halmstad's last two games were a proper goal fest, and IF Elfsborg do score at home. But the last three home games have been a 0–1, a 1–0 and a 2–0. That's the kind of match that ends 1–0 or 0–0, and I'm not here for that. Life's too short for nil-nil, but I'm also not going to chase a price that doesn't give me the edge I need.
Key Points:
- IF Elfsborg have kept their last three home games under 2.5 goals (0–1, 1–0, 2–0)
- Halmstad's away record over 20 games: 3W 6D 11L, scoring just 1.0 per game
- The only recent head-to-head meeting (16 May 2026) ended 1–1
- Halmstad's last two wins were high-scoring (3–2 and 2–1), but their away scoring remains modest
- The Over 2.5 price at 1.6 implies 62.5%, which I rate as higher than the evidence supports
Verdict: No Bet.
