Alright, grab a pint and settle in. Welcome to another round of Austrian Bundesliga action, and this time we’re looking at Lask Linz hosting Ried. If you’re after a bit of graft and a proper look at the numbers, you’ve come to the right place. I’m Mr Simple, and I don’t do jargon—just straight talk, goals, and value.
Lask Linz are flying high at the top of the table, sitting pretty on six points from two matches. They’ve won both, and frankly, they look like a side that knows exactly what they’re doing. Since the season kicked off, they’ve been clinical, grinding out a 3-0 win over Grazer AK and a solid 2-0 away victory against Austria Vienna. Over their last ten games, they’re averaging nearly three goals a game (2.90) while keeping a pristine defensive record, conceding just 0.60 per outing. At home, they’re even more imposing, averaging 2.00 goals scored and 0.67 conceded. The graft is there, the finishing is sharp, and they’re riding a wave of confidence.
Now, let’s talk about Ried. They’re currently sitting in eighth place with just one point from two games. A 1-2 defeat to Rapid Vienna and a 1-1 draw with Austria Lustenau haven’t exactly set the league alight. Away from home, their record is a bit of a mixed bag. They’re conceding an average of 2.25 goals per away game, and their overall clean sheet rate is a dismal 10%. They’ve got the occasional spark—they score 1.70 goals on average—but keeping a back door shut is clearly a work in progress.
You might be thinking about that head-to-head record. Historically, these two have been proper cagey affairs. In their last ten meetings, Lask have only managed one win, with six draws and three for Ried. Only one of those ten games went over 2.5 goals. But here’s the thing: form beats history every time. Lask are in a completely different stratosphere right now compared to the teams they played back then. The current squad is clicking, and Ried’s away defense is leaving too many gaps.
When we look at the numbers, the goal expectancy points to a healthy total of around 3.20 goals for this fixture. Lask’s attack is firing on all cylinders, while Ried’s away defense is leaking. The bookies have Over 2.5 Goals priced at 1.70. That’s a fair price, and when you run the Poisson maths against their current scoring and conceding trends, the probability of seeing three or more goals sits comfortably above 60%. That gives us a solid edge over the implied market probability.
So, what’s the play? I’m backing the goals. Lask will push hard at home, Ried will be forced to chase the game, and with the defensive frailties on display away from home, we’re looking at a proper open affair. I’m going in with Over 2.5 Goals.
Key Points:
- Lask Linz are top of the table with two wins from two, averaging 2.90 goals scored per game overall.
- Ried sit eighth with just one point, conceding 2.25 goals per away match.
- Historical H2H is tight, but current form heavily favors an open, attacking game.
- Mathematical goal expectancy sits at 3.20, giving Over 2.5 Goals a clear mathematical edge at 1.70 odds.
My pick for this fixture is Over 2.5 Goals.
