Monaco vs Toulouse: Ligue 1 Preview – Can the Underdog Surprise?

Preview

Right, folks, welcome back to another one of my previews! 🐾 Today we've got Monaco hosting Toulouse in Ligue 1, and I'm here to see if there's a little puppy hiding in the odds that the big dogs are overlooking.

Let's start with what the numbers tell us. Monaco have been flying — four wins and a draw in their last five, scoring 11 goals and conceding just four. At home over 20 games, they've won 12, drawn 3, and lost 5, averaging 1.9 goals per game while keeping opponents to 1.2. They beat Marseille 2-0 at home on 30 August, and after that they went to Paris Saint Germain's ground and came back with a 2-1 win. The head-to-head at Monaco's ground in the recent window saw Monaco edge Toulouse 1-0 back in October 2025.

Now, I love Toulouse. They're the kind of team that makes you root for them. They beat Le Havre 3-2 at home on 19 September, and they've scored in three of their last five matches. Their away record over 20 games shows 6 wins, 6 draws, and 8 losses, and they've kept clean sheets in 2 of those 20 away games. The most recent head-to-head at Toulouse's ground was a 2-2 draw in April 2026, which tells you this fixture can be competitive.

But here's the honest truth, and I have to be straight with you all. Toulouse's last five has been 1 win, 2 draws, and 2 losses. They failed to score in two of those five — the 0-1 loss to Lille and the 0-2 loss to Lyon at home — and they've conceded 1.8 goals per game. Their away record over 20 games has them averaging 1.5 goals scored and 1.6 conceded, with only 2 clean sheets. Monaco, by contrast, have failed to score in just 2 of their 20 home games and kept clean sheets in 8.

The market sees Monaco at 1.65 for the win, which puts their implied probability at 60.61%. Toulouse at 5.5 carries an implied 18.18%, and the draw at 4.54 sits at 22.03%.

Now, as your resident underdog champion, I'll tell you: I'd love to back Toulouse here. The 5.5 price is tempting for a little puppy, and the 2-2 draw at their ground last April shows this isn't a one-sided affair. But the evidence just doesn't support it. Toulouse's away form is inconsistent, their recent run includes two shutout losses, and Monaco's home record is dominant. I'd put Toulouse's chance of winning at roughly 15%, which doesn't give me the confidence I need at that price. The draw at 4.54 is a possibility — Toulouse have drawn 6 of their 20 away games — but my estimate sits around 20%, which doesn't clear the bar for a recommendation.

I've also looked at the goal markets. Both teams' records lean towards over 2.5 goals — Monaco have gone over 2.5 in 12 of 20 home games, and Toulouse in 13 of 20 away. Under 2.5 at 2.45 doesn't have enough support in the numbers for me to feel comfortable. And on both teams to score, Monaco have kept clean sheets in 8 of 20 home games, but Toulouse have scored in 14 of 20 away games. The BTTS no at 2.25 doesn't have enough evidence to clear my confidence threshold either.

So, friends, this one's a tough call for the underdog. The numbers point firmly to Monaco, and I simply don't back favourites. There's no hidden value in the prices available that I can honestly recommend. I'll be watching from the sidelines, hoping Toulouse pull off a surprise, but I can't put a stake on it.

Key Points:

  • Monaco are 4W 1D 0L in their last five, scoring 11 and conceding 4
  • Toulouse are 1W 2D 2L in their last five, with two shutout losses
  • Monaco's home record: 12W 3D 5L in 20 games; Toulouse's away: 6W 6D 8L
  • Recent head-to-head at Monaco's ground: Monaco won 1-0 (October 2025)
  • No underdog price offers sufficient value against the football evidence
