New England Revolution vs Chicago Fire: MLS Preview

New England Revolution host Chicago Fire on 17 October in a Major League Soccer fixture that carries the weight of recent form on both sides. The Revolution enter the match with a strong home record — 11 wins, 5 draws and 4 losses across their last 20 home games, averaging 1.9 points per game and scoring 2.05 goals per match while conceding just 1.2. That defensive solidity at home is the foundation of their case, and it was on display when they held Orlando City to a 4–2 win on 19 September. The most recent head-to-head meeting tells a clear story. On 13 September, four weeks before this kickoff, New England Revolution travelled to Chicago Fire's ground and won 2–1. The meeting before that, on 18 October 2025 at New England Revolution's ground, ended 2–2. So the two most recent meetings at both venues have produced a total of seven goals, and both sides have found the net in each of those games. Chicago Fire's away record over their last 20 away games shows 7 wins, 7 draws and 6 losses, with 1.65 goals scored and 1.65 conceded per game. Their most recent away result was a 1–0 win at Charlotte on 26 September, but that was preceded by a 0–3 defeat at Nashville SC on 20 September. The contrast between those two away outings is stark, and it makes it difficult to build a confident picture of how they will perform on the road. The counter-argument to any strong pick here is the Revolution's recent vulnerability. They lost 0–3 to Seattle Sounders at home on 10 October and 0–3 to Real Salt Lake away on 27 September — two consecutive shutout defeats before bouncing back with a 3–2 win at FC Cincinnati on 14 October. That swing from blanked to scoring three in a single match week shows a team that can be inconsistent. Chicago Fire, meanwhile, have had three red cards across their last five games (two for Chicago, one for an opponent), which introduces a variable that no record can fully capture. The goal-scoring data leans toward an open game. New England Revolution have gone over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 5 matches and 9 of their last 10. Chicago Fire have gone over 2.5 in 4 of their last 5 and 8 of their last 10. At their respective venues, the Revolution have seen over 2.5 in 12 of 20 home games and Chicago Fire in 15 of 20 away games. Both teams have also recorded both-teams-to-score in 7 of 10 and 8 of 10 recent matches respectively. The xG figures reinforce this: the Revolution have been creating chances worth 1.78 goals per game while conceding 1.33, and Chicago Fire have been creating 1.21 per game while conceding 1.67. Key Points: - New England Revolution's home record (11W 5D 4L, 1.9 ppg, 1.2 conceded per game) is the strongest single indicator in this fixture. - The two most recent head-to-head meetings produced 7 goals total, with both teams scoring in each. - Chicago Fire's away form is split: a 1–0 win at Charlotte and a 0–3 loss at Nashville in consecutive away games. - New England Revolution lost 0–3 in their two matches immediately before the 3–2 win at FC Cincinnati. - Both teams have over 2.5 and BTTS rates at or above 70% in their last 10 games. The football points toward an open, goal-rich encounter, but the available prices do not offer a margin I can stand behind with the conviction this fixture demands. The Revolution's home numbers are solid, yet their recent 0–3 defeats and Chicago Fire's inconsistent away record keep this in the realm of uncertainty. No Bet.
