Right, so we've got PSV Eindhoven at home to Feyenoord on 25 October, and I'll be straight with you — this is one of those fixtures where the home record tells you one thing and the last five games tell you another.
The numbers say PSV should be in control. Over their last 20 home games, PSV have won 13, drawn 3 and lost 4, scoring 3 goals a game. That's a proper home record, no argument there. And when these two have met recently, PSV have won both — a 3–0 at their own ground back in February and a 3–2 away at Feyenoord's place in October last year. Meanwhile Feyenoord's away record over their last 20 away games is 9 wins, 4 draws, 7 losses, scoring 2.1 a game. So the venue record and the head-to-head both point the same way, and that's a decent foundation to build a bet on.
Now the counter-argument, and it's a good one. Feyenoord are flying. Four wins from their last five, 14 goals scored, 2.8 a game. They beat Telstar 4–3 on the road, thrashed Como 3–2 at home, and put five past Utrecht. That's a team in the zone, no doubt about it. Meanwhile PSV have won just two of their last five, and three of those losses came on the road — Leipzig, Twente, and that 2–1 slip at ADO Den Haag where they lost a man in the 43rd minute. So PSV's recent form is a bit patchy, and they're coming into this with a little wobble in the legs.
The market has PSV at 2.07 for the win, which prices them at about 48%. Feyenoord sit at 3.25 (31%). I look at the home record, the head-to-head, and the fact that PSV score three a game at home while Feyenoord manage 2.1 away, and I rate PSV's chance a touch higher than the market does — somewhere around 53%. That's a small edge, but it's there, and it's enough for me to pull the trigger.
Key Points:
So there we are — the numbers say PSV, the form says Feyenoord, and I'm going with the numbers. PSV Eindhoven home win.
