Howzit my bru! Grab a cold one and stoke the coals, because Friday night Ligue 2 action is coming in hot! Rodez hosting Montpellier at 19:00, and let me tell you, this looks like a lekker encounter for the neutral.
Rodez have been like a stubborn boerewors on the grill lately – they just won't burst! Unbeaten in their last five league matches, they've been churning out results like a proper braai master. They come off a solid 2-1 win against Clermont Foot last weekend, and before that they edged Boulogne 2-1 away. That's two wins on the trot, boet! But here's the thing – they love a draw more than a vegetarian loves a salad (which is never, trust me). Three draws in their last five, including 1-1 stalemates against high-flying RED Star FC 93 and Le Mans. At home, they're drawing 75% of their last four – that's three out of four ending all square. They score consistently (1.25 per home game) but can't keep a clean sheet to save their lives – zero in the last ten games! They've conceded in every single match, including that 3-3 thriller against PAU and the 1-1 against Dunkerque.
Now, Montpellier – these okes know how to find the net. Sitting pretty in 7th with 34 points, just one above Rodez, they smashed Le Mans 4-2 last time out in a proper goal-fest. Before that, they beat Guingamp 3-1 and Bastia 2-0 away. But don't let the flash fool you – they're as consistent as a cheap cooler box. Lost 1-0 to Saint Etienne, bounced back with the 4-2, but then got knocked out the cup by Nice 3-2. Away from home, they win 43% of the time but also lose 43% – flip a coin, bru!
The head-to-head is where Montpellier fans will be smiling like a croc in the sun. Five wins out of seven against Rodez, including a comfortable 2-0 victory when they met in October. Rodez has never beaten Montpellier at home – lost both times they've hosted them. That's a proper mental edge right there.
Looking at the numbers, Rodez are averaging 1.6 goals scored and 1.2 conceded per game over their last ten. Montpellier are even more prolific at 1.8 scored per game. Both teams are finding the back of the net regularly, and with Rodez's defense leakier than a paper boat, expect chances at both ends.
Key Points:
• Rodez are unbeaten in 5 league games (W-W-D-W-D) but draw 75% of home matches recently
• Montpellier have won 5 of last 7 meetings, including 2-0 in October – Rodez has 0% home win rate vs Montpellier
• Rodez have 0 clean sheets in last 10 games, conceding in every match while scoring in 9/10
• Montpellier average 1.8 goals per game recently but are inconsistent away (W-L-W-L pattern)
• Goal expectancies suggest a tight game (1.05 vs 1.21) but recent form points to goals
Summary:
With Rodez unable to keep a clean sheet in ten attempts and Montpellier's attacking quality shown in that 4-2 demolition of Le Mans, I'm firing up the braai for a goal-fest. Both Teams To Score is the play here at 1.73 – these defenses look shakier than a Jenga tower after a few Castle Lagers!
