Shakhtar Donetsk are absolutely cooking at the moment, and I'm not talking about the braai. Five wins in a row, 15 goals scored, and just one conceded. That's not a team that's grinding out results — that's a side that's eating up opposition like a man who's been waiting for his boerewors to come off the coals. You want to see a team in full flight? Look no further.
The numbers back it up. At home over their last 20 games, Shakhtar have won 14, drawn 1 and lost 5, scoring 2.15 per game and conceding just 0.8. In their last five matches across all competitions, they've hit 3 goals in every single one — 3-1 against AEK Athens in the Champions League, 3-0 at Veres Rivne, 3-0 against Kryvbas KR, 3-0 against LNZ Cherkasy, and 3-0 at Vilkhivtsi in the Cup. Four clean sheets out of five. That's a side that's clicking on all cylinders, and frankly, it's a bit embarrassing for the opposition. I've seen worse things than a 3-0 scoreline, but I've also seen worse things than a man eating his vegetables, so I'll leave it there.
Kolos Kovalivka, on the other hand, are a different story. Their last five has been 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses, with 10 goals scored and 10 conceded. They haven't kept a single clean sheet in that stretch. Their away record over 20 games is 8 wins, 6 draws and 6 losses, scoring 1.3 per game and conceding 1.15. They've won their last two — 3-1 at home to Epitsentr Dunayivtsi and 3-2 away at Kudrivka — but before that they lost 0-2 and 2-3 to Karpaty at home. It's a side that can score but also leaks goals regularly, and that's a problem when you're walking into a team that's scoring 3 per game.
Now here's the wrinkle. In the last 12 months, these two have met twice. In May 2026, Kolos came to Shakhtar's ground and won 1-0. In December 2025, they drew 0-0 at Kolos's ground. So the recent head-to-head is actually a bit of a puzzle — two low-scoring affairs, one of which went Kolos's way. The older meetings, going back to 2024, tell a very different story with Shakhtar winning 11 of 15 overall, but those are historical and don't carry the same weight as what's happening right now.
The counter-argument is real: Kolos did beat Shakhtar at this very ground four months ago, and both recent meetings finished with two or fewer goals. If Kolos park the bus and sit deep, they've shown they can frustrate this side. That 1-0 result in May is a genuine data point that says this isn't a one-sided affair.
But the form on both sides is hard to ignore. Shakhtar are scoring 3 per game and conceding 0.2. Kolos are conceding 2 per game. When a team that's scoring at that rate meets a defence that's leaking at that rate, goals tend to follow. Over 2.5 has hit in 13 of Shakhtar's last 20 home games and 10 of Kolos's last 20 away games. Kolos's last five has seen over 2.5 in four of five. The market prices over 2.5 at 1.65, implying about 61%, but I think the current form pushes the real likelihood above that mark.
Key Points:
- Shakhtar Donetsk have won their last 5, scoring 15 and conceding just 1
- Kolos Kovalivka have no clean sheets in their last 5 and concede 2 per game
- Recent H2H at this ground was 0-1 to Kolos (May 2026) and a 0-0 draw (Dec 2025)
- Over 2.5 has hit in 13 of Shakhtar's last 20 home games and 10 of Kolos's last 20 away games
- Kolos's last 5 matches have seen over 2.5 in 4 of 5
My verdict: I'm going with over 2.5 goals. The form on both sides — Shakhtar's 3-goal-a-game output and Kolos's 2-goal-a-game leak — tells me this is a goal-fest, and the low-scoring H2H from a few months ago doesn't reflect what either team is doing right now. Over 2.5 goals at 1.65 is my pick.
