Right, so we've got Tranmere hosting Barnet on 17 October, and if you've been following League Two, the difference in form here is hard to ignore.
Barnet have been absolutely flying. Six wins, four draws, no losses in their last ten games — that's 22 points from 30 available. They're scoring 2.5 a game and only conceding 1.2. Look at some of their recent games: a 3–1 win at Bristol Rovers, a 3–1 home win over Fleetwood Town, a 2–1 home win over Accrington ST, and a 3–3 draw at Chesterfield. That's 11 goals in five games. And on the road, over their last 20 away fixtures, they've won 11, drawn 5 and lost just 4, scoring 1.75 a game. That's a team that travels well.
Tranmere, on the other hand, are having a tough time at home. Over 20 home games, they've won 5, drawn 5 and lost 10, scoring just 1 a game and conceding 1.4. Their last five has been 1 win, 3 draws and 1 loss — a 1–1 draw with Rochdale, a 2–4 defeat at Chesterfield, another 1–1 draw with Walsall, a 1–0 win over Shrewsbury in the Trophy, and a 0–0 at Exeter. They've scored 5 and conceded 6 in that stretch. Not the sort of numbers that make you feel safe at home.
The head-to-head is small — just two meetings — but both went Barnet's way. The most recent, eight months ago at Barnet's ground, was a 1–0 home win for Barnet. Before that, a 2–0 away win at Tranmere's ground back in October 2025. Tranmere didn't score in either. That said, those are only two games and one is historical, so I wouldn't put too much weight on it.
The counter-argument? Tranmere have drawn three of their last five, and Barnet have drawn two of theirs. The 0–0 at Exeter and the 1–1 draw with Rochdale show Tranmere can park the bus and grind out a point. Also, Barnet's away record, while strong, does include 4 losses in 20, and they've only kept 5 clean sheets in that stretch. So it's not a guarantee they'll get the win.
But when you look at the numbers side by side — Barnet 2.2 points per game in their last ten versus Tranmere's 1.2, Barnet scoring 2.5 a game versus Tranmere's 1.2 — the picture is pretty clear. Barnet are the stronger side and they travel well.
Key Points:
- Barnet: 6W 4D 0L in last 10, 2.5 goals per game
- Tranmere home record: 5W 5D 10L over 20 games, 1 goal per game
- H2H: Barnet won both meetings (1–0, 2–0), Tranmere scored zero
- Barnet away: 11W 5D 4L over 20 games, 1.75 goals per game
- Tranmere last 5: 1W 3D 1L, 4 of 5 under 2.5 goals
Verdict: I'm going with the Barnet away win at 2.03. The form, the away record, and the head-to-head all point the same way.
