There's something quietly endearing about Novara's home record in this fixture. Over their last 20 home games in Serie C Girone A, Novara have kept at least one team scoreless in 10 of those 20 matches. That's a habit, not a fluke. And when you stack it against Cittadella's away record — 13 of their last 20 away games ended with at least one side failing to score — the picture of a tight, low-scoring afternoon starts to look less like a stretch and more like the natural order of things.
Novara's last five matches tell a story of a team that struggles to find the net at home. They failed to score in three of those five games, including the 0–1 loss to Pergolettese on 13 September and the 0–2 defeat to Ospitaletto on 26 September. The 0–0 draw at Lumezzane and the 2–2 with Athletic Carpi both ended without a winner. The one bright spot is the 2–1 away win at Dolomiti Bellunesi on 4 October, which gives them a current run of one win. But at home, the pattern is clear: Novara's last 20 home games produced 11 games under 2.5 goals, and 10 of those 20 saw at least one team go blank.
Cittadella, for their part, are in magnificent form. Four wins and one loss in their last five, eight wins in their last ten, and they scored in every single one of those five recent matches. That 3–0 over Lecco, the 2–0 against Juventus U23, the 1–0 at Ospitaletto — the goals are coming in clusters. And yet, their away record over 20 games tells a different story: 15 of those 20 away fixtures finished under 2.5 goals, and 13 of them saw at least one team fail to score. The away record is where the tightness lives.
The head-to-head adds a small note of caution. The most recent meeting at Novara's ground, on 19 April 2026, ended 0–1 to Cittadella. The other recent meeting, at Cittadella's ground on 14 December 2025, was a 2–2 draw. So the last two meetings at both venues produced just five goals between them. The older meetings — a 3–1 in 2020, a 1–3 in 2018, a 1–0 in 2017 — are historical and don't carry much weight for this fixture.
The counter-argument is straightforward: Cittadella have scored in all five of their recent matches, averaging 1.8 goals per game, and their away record still sees them scoring 1.1 per game. Novara, despite their defensive struggles, did score in two of their last five. The market prices both teams to score at 1.83, implying a 54.64% chance, which is the bookmaker's lean.
But the venue records don't lie. Novara at home: 10 of 20 BTTS no. Cittadella away: 13 of 20 BTTS no. Novara's last five: 3 of 5 BTTS no. Cittadella's last five: 3 of 5 BTTS no. The numbers keep pointing the same direction — at least one of these two sides will go home without a goal. I rate the chance of at least one team failing to score at around 54%, which sits just above the market's 50% implied figure. It's a small edge, but for the little dog, small edges are where the joy lives.
Key Points:
- Novara's last 20 home games produced 10 matches where at least one team failed to score
- Cittadella's last 20 away games produced 13 matches where at least one team failed to score
- Novara failed to score in 3 of their last 5 matches
- The two most recent head-to-head meetings at both venues produced just 5 total goals
- Cittadella's 5-match scoring run is the main counter-argument
The little dog's pick: both teams not to score at 2.0.
