May the form be with you, friends. And what a form we have to look at, this one.
Penrhyncoch arrive at Llanuwchllyn's ground with a weight upon them that even the Force could not lift. Five matches, five defeats. One goal scored. Fourteen conceded. In their last five, they have failed to find the net in four of them, and the single goal they did manage came against Bangor City 1876 FC at home, a game they lost 1–5. Their away record over 20 games tells a similar tale: 13 losses, 9 of those 20 ending without a Penrhyncoch goal, and a scoring rate of 0.8 per game. In their latest 10 across all grounds, they have won none, drawn one, and lost nine, managing just 4 goals in total. The wisdom of the numbers says this: a side that scores 0.2 goals per game in its last five is unlikely to find the back of the net. And that is the heart of this fixture.
Llanuwchllyn, for their part, are not without their own troubles. Two defeats in their last two — a 0–1 loss at Guilsfield and a 2–5 home defeat to Caersws, where a red card in the 81st minute left them short. But look at the home record, and a different picture emerges. Over 10 home games, Llanuwchllyn have won 4, drawn 1, and lost 5, scoring 1.6 goals per game and keeping 4 clean sheets. They beat Holyhead Hotspur 4–0 and Gresford Athletic 2–0 at home just five weeks ago. The 2–5 loss to Caersws, while painful, sits alongside those victories, and the home record over 10 games shows a side that can and does score.
The counter-argument, and I must be honest, is that Llanuwchllyn are not in their best of form. Two losses in a row, 6 goals conceded in those two, and a home record that includes 5 defeats in 10. The 2–5 scoreline against Caersws is a reminder that even at home, the door can be left open. And with no head-to-head meetings on record, there is no history to lean upon. The head-to-head is, as they say, a blank page. You must look to the present, not the past, when the past offers nothing.
But here is the thing, and I will say it plainly: the question is not whether Llanuwchllyn win. The question is whether Penrhyncoch score. And the evidence, the numbers, the form — all of it points to a Penrhyncoch side that will struggle to find the net. Four of their last five ended without a goal. Seven of their last ten. Nine of their last 20 away. The pattern is clear, and it is not a coincidence. A side that has scored 1 goal in 5 matches does not suddenly find its voice on the road. You must trust the numbers, young one. They do not lie.
Key Points:
- Penrhyncoch have lost all 5 of their recent matches, scoring just 1 goal and conceding 14
- Penrhyncoch failed to score in 4 of their last 5 and 7 of their last 10
- Llanuwchllyn's home record over 10 games: 4W 1D 5L, 1.6 goals scored per game
- Llanuwchllyn lost their last 2 matches, conceding 6 goals in those games
- No head-to-head meetings on record between the two sides
The verdict: both teams not to score.
