Express came out of the Uganda Express Newspapers management and by 1964 were winning the Division One championship of the Kampala and District Football League, Ali Kitonsa scoring 54 goals. They were in the inaugural National League First Division in 1968–69, finishing fourth, and won their first national title in 1974, repeating it in 1975. The Super League came in 1993, followed by league titles in 1995 and 1996. In 1995 the Red Eagles reached the African Cup of Champions Clubs semi-finals, losing 2–1 on aggregate to Orlando Pirates. Ten Ugandan Cups and the East African Hedex Super Cup of 2001–02 sit in the cabinet, and in 2011–12 they won the league again, a point clear of Bunamwaya SC.
