Luton Town was founded on 11 April 1885, and captain Bob Hawkes became its first international when picked for England against Ireland on 16 February 1907. The white and black colours first appeared in 1920โ21, and a debut in the First Division came as 1955โ56 ended, followed by an FA Cup final against Nottingham Forest in 1958โ59. The seventh place of 1986โ87 is the club's highest ever league position. In the 2012โ13 FA Cup fourth round they won 1โ0 at Norwich City, and the Premier League spell began with a 2โ1 win at Everton on 30 September 2023 before relegation in May 2024 and again on 3 May 2025.
Luton Town won the Football League Cup in 1987โ88 and the EFL Trophy in 2008โ09 and 2025โ26. The club took the Second Division title in 1981โ82 and the third-tier title in 1936โ37, 2004โ05 and 2018โ19, and also the Fourth Division in 1967โ68 and the Conference Premier in 2013โ14.
Kenilworth Road in Luton opened in 1905 and holds 12,056. Floodlights went up before the 1953โ54 season, and the club first showed interest in moving to a new stadium in 1955, when it also won its first promotion to the First Division. A 20,000-seat indoor ground proposed in 1995, the Kohlerdome, was turned down in 1998. In April 2016 the club announced it would build and move into a ground holding 17,500 at Power Court in central Luton, and in September 2024 it submitted revised plans to Luton Borough Council for a 25,000 stadium.
