Francis Rule and Alfred C. Crowle promoted the creation of the first football club in Mexico, Pachuca Football Club, on 1 November 1892, and in 1895 a merger turned it into Pachuca Athletic Club. The amateur title of 1904–05 was the first of several, but the club dissolved in 1922 and stayed dormant for 28 years. The club came back in 1960 under a fresh name and new colours, and Pachuca won the Segunda División in 1966–67 and moved up, taking the first top-flight win on 16 July 1967 against Monterrey, 2–1. The golden age began on 19 December 1999, when Pachuca edged Cruz Azul in the final under Javier Aguirre, 3–2 over two legs, with a golden goal from Alejandro Glaria. The international breakthrough came on 18 September 2002 with the CONCACAF Champions' Cup against Monarcas Morelia, and in 2007 CONCACAF named Pachuca its Team of the Year after five titles in 17 months. The seventh league title arrived on 30 October 2022, an 8–2 aggregate win over Toluca.
Pachuca have played at the Estadio Hidalgo since 14 February 1993, a ground seating 25,922. The club has moved around over the years: after the return in 1950 the team used the small Estadio Margarito Ramírez, and the refounded side of 1960 went to the Estadio Revolución Mexicana, which held just over 3,000. That ground was the home until 1993 apart from 1986–87, when the Estadio 10 de Diciembre was used instead. The Hidalgo has been the setting for the most successful period in club history, which started with the promotion of 1998.
