The Triple Crown season starts in York
There's a particular hush that settles over a packed York Barbican just before a deciding frame, and from Saturday 28 November it's back. The UK Championship is the first of snooker's three Triple Crown events this season, ahead of the Masters and the World Championship, and it's widely regarded as the second-biggest ranking title in the game, behind only the Crucible.
This one is a landmark edition, too. It's the 50th consecutive staging of an event that began in 1977 at Blackpool Tower Circus, where Patsy Fagan beat Doug Mountjoy 12-9 in the very first final. The prize has moved on a fair bit since then: the 2026 champion banks £312,500, a record for the tournament, from a £1.5 million pot.
The storylines write themselves. Mark Selby defends the title he won by beating Judd Trump 10-8 last December. Wu Yize arrives as world champion after one of the great Crucible runs, and he's already added another trophy this season. Zhao Xintong, the world number one, heads the early betting. And Ronnie O'Sullivan is chasing a record-extending ninth UK crown.
Below we cover how the draw is built, the scrap for the last seeded places, the main contenders, the markets and the angles we like most.
