Oh, what a delightful matchup we have here! While everyone will be looking at the league table and seeing third-placed Chengdu Better City visiting 12th-placed Sichuan Jiuniu, my underdog senses are tingling with excitement! Let me tell you why these little puppies might just have a surprise in store.
Looking at recent form, Sichuan Jiuniu has shown some real bite at home lately. They've secured victories against Beijing Guoan (2-1) and Meizhou Kejia (2-0), proving they can compete when playing on their own patch. Their home goals per game average of 1.50 shows they're not shy about finding the net in front of their supporters.
Meanwhile, Chengdu Better City, despite their lofty league position, have been rather toothless on their travels recently. Their away form reads 0 wins, 4 draws, and 1 loss in their last five away games. That's right - ZERO wins! They've been dropping points all over the place, with draws against Qingdao Youth Island (2-2), Hangzhou Greentown (3-3), and even a 1-1 stalemate against second-placed Shanghai Shenhua.
The head-to-head record might look daunting (0-5 loss last time), but remember - that was then and this is now! Sichuan have had 22 days to prepare for this match, while Chengdu have been jetting around in the AFC Champions League. Those continental adventures can take their toll, you know!
What really catches my eye is Chengdu's recent dip in form across all metrics - goals scored declining, points dropping, and that away win drought continuing. Sometimes the big dogs get complacent, and that's when the underdogs pounce!
With odds of 7.00 floating around for a home win, the market might be underestimating our plucky hosts. Combine Sichuan's home improvements with Chengdu's travel troubles and continental commitments, and we have all the ingredients for a classic underdog story!
