Australian Open 2027: a three-way fight in Melbourne
Melbourne opens the tennis year, and the 2026 edition was one of the best Slams in years. Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic in the final to complete the career Grand Slam. Elena Rybakina came back from 3-0 down in the deciding set to beat world number one Aryna Sabalenka. Somewhere in between we got a five-and-a-half-hour semi-final and a heat rule that actually had to be used.
The Australian Open 2027 gets under way at Melbourne Park on Sunday 17 January 2027, with the singles finals on 30 and 31 January 2027. At the end of October 2026 the tour is deep in its indoor swing, the ATP Finals in Turin are still to come and the first ball in Melbourne is about 11 weeks off. The bookmakers haven't waited. Their Australian Open 2027 outright markets are already up.
The men's story has shifted a long way since February 2026. Alexander Zverev won the French Open and the US Open in 2026 and takes over from Jannik Sinner as world number one on Monday 2 November 2026. The market still treats Melbourne as Sinner v Alcaraz, though. By the end of January 2027 one of those two views is going to look wrong.
We'll walk through how the tournament works, what 2026 taught us, the men's and women's contenders, the heat and the roofs, the key dates and the markets worth your time. For the wider Slam picture, our tennis betting guide to the ATP, WTA and Grand Slams makes a good companion read.
