Masters snooker 2027: sixteen players, one table
Nothing in snooker is as loud as Alexandra Palace in January. The hall is packed, there's one table under the lights and the best players in the world have nowhere to hide. Every missed black gets a groan from the whole room. The 2027 Masters snooker tournament, officially the Johnstone's Paint Masters, runs from Sunday 10 to Sunday 17 January 2027. It's the second Triple Crown event of the 2026/27 season, sitting between the UK Championship in York and the World Championship at the Crucible, and our Triple Crown snooker betting strategy guide shows how the big three differ.
Kyren Wilson defends the title after beating John Higgins 10-6 in the 2026 final, and he's playing well. On 25 October 2026 he thumped Jak Jones 9-2 to win the Northern Ireland Open, with a top break of 139. He'll have company. Wu Yize is the reigning world champion, Judd Trump won the Shanghai Masters in August 2026 and Mark Selby has already lifted the China Open.
Early punters have one problem. The line-up isn't fixed until the world rankings are updated after the UK Championship final on 6 December 2026. The 2026/27 season was only about 18 weeks old at the end of October 2026, so the race for those 16 places is wide open.
So here's the plan: how the event works, ten years of finals, the Ronnie O'Sullivan question, the main contenders, the key dates and the markets worth betting.
