The night Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or in London
The Brazilian Ronaldo, a two-time winner himself, was holding the trophy. Harry Kane, in his own words, had a heart "beating fast". Then the name came out inside the London Palladium on Monday night, and at the 70th Ballon d'Or the boy Arsenal once released became the best player on the planet. He's 33.
Kane's Ballon d'Or win makes him the first Englishman to take the award since Michael Owen in 2001, and only the fifth ever. The ceremony was staged in London rather than Paris to mark 70 years since Stanley Matthews won the very first one, and Kane felt every bit of that. "Being in London, it is extra special; it felt like a good omen," he told the room.
He beat Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal to it, and having watched his season, we'd have voted the same way. If you want the whole road, Leyton Orient loans and all, our Harry Kane career story tells it.
